Salvador Douglas Ramos
On March 5th 2005 we received a phone call from the father of a friend where my son Salvador had stayed over the night before. When I answered the phone I was told that my son was in an accident and I needed to go to the hospital. My heart was beating so hard I knew then that my son was gone. It was the longest ride to the hospital I ever had to make.
When I got there I was told that he was killed instantly. He had major head trauma where the handle bar had gone into the back of his skull, broken ribs, internal bleeding and major facial damage. I was told the field was flat where he and his friends were riding, when a tire blew out. It threw my son who was driving one way and his friend the other. The four wheeler rolled several times before coming into contact with my son. There were no adults present watching them.
My son had turned 14 on Jan. 23, 2005. The last thing I remember was being upset with him because I didn't want him to go with his friends the day before. I have many sleepless nights, reliving that day so many times over. His friend who was the one on the back walked away with only scratches. There will always be a huge hole in my heart that can never be filled again. I miss him everyday of my life and it doesn't get easier. ATV’s are just too dangerous for children under the age of 16.
