Duncan Miller
Duncan was a natural at all things mechanical. At age 2, Duncan was so good at turning a steering wheel appropriately while backing up his Little Tykes toddler car, he had his grandmother (and anyone else watching) convinced that the toy steering wheel was actually connected to the front wheels. When Duncan was 6, his father put him on an ATV for the first time. By the time he was 12 years old, he was very confident in his abilities on both a 3 wheeler and a 6 wheeler. Then in April 2010 in Fair Grove, MO, Duncan and another boy (aged 14) decided to take the Polaris Sportsman 6 x 6 to go fishing. On the way back, they attempted to turn from a paved surface to a gravel road and the ATV flipped over. Duncan landed on his face and right arm. His right forearm shattered, breaking and each of the two pieces splintering toward his wrist and his elbow. At the time of this writing, the healing process was not going well. Duncan's ulna (one of the two bones in his forearm) had "telescoped", meaning that it will be shorter than it was. This will likely cause problems and pain in his wrist and may require future surgery. At the time of his accident, his forehead was split into three pieces, with one part hanging in his eyes. He was not wearing a helmet.
Overall, however, the CT scan, multiple x-rays, and MRI's revealed that Duncan was VERY LUCKY. Duncan's father is currently attempting to sell both ATV's stating, " I have hauled the last kid to the hospital looking like a piece of ground hamburger."
