Jim Dougherty

Jim was already an outdoors man at 8 years old. He loved hunting and fishing with his father. He started driving a 50cc ATV at 6 years old. We bought a cheap, Chinese knockoff 110cc ATV and governed it down. He always wore a helmet. We followed him around on our own ATV since the ATV was bigger and more powerful.

I allowed Jim only 2-3 minutes of freedom to go without me on the rolling hills of an open cow pasture while I waited for him at the gate. I found him pinned under the ATV. The foot well was across his throat, suffocating him. His helmet didn't save him.

One minute we were laughing, having fun and two minutes later he was dead.
